Testimonial: Henry Freeman - Non-Executive Director Development Programme

Have you heard of our Non-Executive Director (NED) Development Programme?

It has been designed to support the development and transition of local talent wishing to become a NED, in turn diversifying the local NED pool and supporting the transfer of knowledge and skills from experienced NEDs to the next generation, whilst benefiting Partner boards with the much-needed fresh thinking that a developing NED can bring to the table.

We recently received fantastic feedback from a previous participant, Henry Freeman who is now coming to the end of his year-long apprenticeship with Ruffer Investment Company.

Today is my final quarterly board meeting with Ruffer Investment Company (ticker: RICA.L).

My year-long apprenticeship with this FTSE 250 investment company, as part of the Non-Executive Director Development Programme, finishes in November and what a year to have observed and learned from.

I joined the Board working through a new prospectus and share issuance programme and the Company has consequently grown through strong investor demand, from c. £650m in net assets to c. £1.05bn, and joined the #FTSE250during the year. The Manager has deftly navigated through a year of high inflation, market volatility and geopolitical risk.

The development programme with Ruffer and the GTA University Centre has been a great learning experience and has helped me transition from previously advising Boards and Managers of listed companies and funds in my executive career, to the Non-Executive work I am doing now. It has been complemented nicely with the learnings from the Institute of Directors (IoD) Certificate and Diploma programmes.

I have a longstanding affinity with Ruffer Investment Company, having previously invested in it when I was on the buy-side and then covered the Company as a research analyst on the sell-side, so it has been an honour to work with and learn from the Board (Chris Russell, Jill May, Nicholas Pink, Shelagh Mason, David Staples and Sally-Ann Farnon), the Manager (Duncan MacInnes CFA), the Brokers (Investec Corporate and Investment Banking, David Yovichic) and Administrator / Co-Sec (Sanne, Katrina Rowe). Thank you all.

Thank you Henry for your kind review of the programme experience!
