Guernsey Certificate in International Insurance Management

3-6 months self-study (approximately 75 hours at 4-8 hours a week). Start Date: Anytime. Exams are held 3 times a year in Guernsey. The 2026 Dates are 22 January, 4 June, 24 September. Course Overview

This six-month (approx. 75 hour) Certificate in International Insurance Management is a new certificated qualification developed by the Sagacious Group of experienced insurance professionals in conjunction with the Guernsey International Insurance Association (GIIA) and the GTA University Centre.

This self-study qualification has been designed to give candidates actionable, practical knowledge of all facets of the Guernsey international insurance industry. Candidates will get to grips with a variety of topics relevant to the Guernsey international insurance industry from governing laws, governance and basic principles to the specifics of captive insurance and index linked securities.

To obtain the certificate to formalise and evidence your learning, you can choose to sit a 50 question multiple choice 1 hour exam. Registering for the exam will also give you access to:

  • Guernsey based mentors who are available to provide delegates with an experienced practitioner to address questions of a technical and            interpretive nature on the Certificate’s course materias.l
  • An AI-powered learning assistant to support your studies throughout this programme. The GTA GIIA Tutor, powered by ChatGPT, is available 24/7 to help answer your course-related questions, clarify concepts, and guide your revision.
  • Sample exam questions.

The Certificate is accredited by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

  • Insurance Policy Administration

  • Investments and loans
  • Taxation
  • Compliance
  • Governance, Conduct and Ethics
  • Professional Advisors and Services including bankers, actuaries, auditors, asset managers, brokers and claims handlers.
  • The role of the company secretary
  • Index Linked Securities
  • Long term business
  • Pension longevity hedging
  • Managing General Agents and Delegated Authority Underwriting

Course Benefits

This course will help those working in the sector to extend their knowledge of the subject, better understand their roles, and progress their careers whilst providing course material that will facilitate learning.

After undertaking the course candidates will be able to identify key areas of the Guernsey international insurance industry and have a grasp of how they work and fit together.

For those not working in the sector this course will provide a sound understanding of how international insurance works, and in particular how it operates in Guernsey.

Assessment

Candidates will undertake a 1 hour, 50 multiple choice question, examination at the completion of their self-study.

Delegates participating in the accredited Guernsey Certificate in International Insurance Management can claim up to 75 CPD hours towards the CII member CPD scheme. The following link contains further information on the CII CPD scheme here.

Prerequisites

The Certificate is open to anyone who is pursuing a career in the Guernsey insurance sector or who is interested in doing so. The course is pitched at a level 3 standard and the content of the programme requires students to possess:

  • a sound educational background; and
  • good written English skills.
