NED Development Programme
Good NEDs add significant value to a company and the wider economy. Locally-resident NEDs bring distinct advantages, especially for fiscal purposes, ease of attendance, and jurisdiction-specific knowledge.
Guernsey is fortunate to have a large pool of experienced NEDs. Through our NED Development Programme, partner boards can help to nurture the next generation of diverse local NEDs by passing on their experience, knowledge and skills to participants.
For established partner boards, the programme offers the benefit of the fresh thinking and modern skills that a developing NED can bring to the table. Participating in the programme also allows partner boards to demonstrate good corporate social responsibility in their annual report, press releases and social media communications.
In addition to a training course and networking events, participants benefit from a 12-month board placement and mentorship. This gives them first-hand experience of sitting on a board, an understanding of NED roles and responsibilities, as well as opportunities to develop the core knowledge and skills required to become an effective NED. Participants leave the programme with the confidence, experience and knowledge to undertake full-time NED positions.

NED Development Programme
As Chairman of the board I am happy to report that the board fully embraced the idea of having an individual attend our board meetings as part of the NED Development programme.
We have had two individuals participate over the past two years. They have found the experience to be helpful and the board has not felt hindered in any way by their presence and have been very pleased to be able to make a contribution to the development of these individuals.
It has been a positive experience for all involved.
