We were all very saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Elaine Monkhouse last week after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Elaine had a long association with the GTA having worked for us initially as a tutor delivering a very popular leadership programme, as well as in a consultancy role, before taking up the post of interim Chief Executive. Elaine served the organisation in this capacity between September 2013 and February 2015 and did an excellent job driving the organisation forward in the short time that she was with us. Elaine understood the role of the GTA and its intrinsic value to the community, she led on developing our values and implemented structures for measuring performance in non-financial terms.
Elaine held a BSc in Management Sciences (1st Class), a PhD in Non-financial Performance Measurement, and a Diploma in Executive Coaching. She was a member of the IoD, an Associate member of the CiPD, and had acted as a Young Enterprise coach for several years. Elaine was an Advisor to the Board of Southampton University School of Management, an Open University Tutor in Strategy, and a published author on strategic management. Elaine was also Chair of Skills Guernsey between 2012 and 2014 and conducted a review of the local Apprenticeship Scheme in 2013.
Elaine had a great sense of humour and brought passion and a huge clarity of thinking to her work. Her work with Skills Guernsey complemented her role at the GTA as she was able to marry the two perspectives between the development of the skills policy and the facilitation of the training.
Elaine was an inspirational leader and a true friend to the GTA and our thoughts are with her family at this time.
