A RECORD number of graduate courses is being offered by the GTA University Centre.

Seven undergraduate and postgraduate courses are due to start in September, the most the GTA University Centre has ever offered. In addition, the GTA will continue to run dozens of full and half day one-off courses on a variety of subjects.

‘The GTA University Centre is here to provide the post-18 learning and development which islanders and the business community wants to ensure the workforce has relevant qualifications in order for the island to remain competitive,’ said deputy chief executive Simon Le Tocq.

‘In response to a growing demand, we have a dedicated postgraduate programmes manager and have also invested significantly in our relationships with UK universities, leading insitutions and recognised professional bodies so that we can offer a wide range of courses tailored to the needs of both employers and employees.’

This month, the GTA is running a number of information events aimed at encouraging interested people to find out more about the courses on offer.

‘The courses are extremely diverse and have already generated a lot of interest. We have two undergraduate courses due to start in September, the LLB Law degree in partnership with the Jersey Institute of Law which is the first undergraduate law degree to be held in Guernsey and also the BSc (Hons) International Financial Services in partnership with the Jersey International Business School,’ said Mr Le Tocq.

‘Our postgraduate courses include an MSc Corporate Governance, an MBA and the Graduate Diploma in Law. We also have a new course which is the MSc International Risk Management & Finance.’

Mr Le Tocq said the reputation of the GTA meant it was able to partner with more institutions.

‘This year, we will be partnering with Southampton University, Bournemouth University and the University of London which is testament to the quality of service provided by the GTA,’ he said.

‘By partnering with leading universities, the GTA is able to provide students with access to UK-based courses and lecturers without the need to travel to the UK. The GTA can offer students a learning environment with the focused support and attention that is only possible with a small cohort. They will benefit from world class teaching programmes enriched by the experience of leading academics, here in Guernsey.’
