Louise founded the charity This Is EPIC in 2013, after having implemented over 1,000 ‘Village Savings and Loans’ projects in Africa since 2007. This Is EPIC works internationally to enable people to overcome poverty through generating their own income, and empowering them to save and loan their money in groups. The Need  Due to This Is EPIC’s rapid development, Louise found that inevitably much of the decision-making was reactive. She felt that a more strategy-led approach would maximize their efforts and give better outcomes to the communities they serve through the charity. The Solution  In September 2017, Guernsey Community Foundation selected Louise from a group of applicants from other charities to receive a free place on a director-development training course – the Institute of Directors Introductory Certificate in Board Readiness. This 3-day training course is specifically designed to support Guernsey’s aspiring directors, giving them the necessary practical skills, knowledge and support to be successful. The intense course explores a range of topics from: corporate governance; purpose of the board; accounting principles; strategy; leadership; and values. The Impact In Louise’s own words:

“This training has deepened my understanding of management tools that we can use to develop This Is EPIC’s future strategy. It has been a great opportunity to build on my leadership skills and learn some new effective ways of working. This Is EPIC is growing and developing rapidly, and I now feel better placed to make educated decisions that will positively impact our charity’s future both locally and internationally.”
