Course Overview

The current very unstable world economic, social and environmental situation is likely to remain with us for a number of years. This presents many unforeseen economic, social and environmental challenges as well as inevitable risks for island jurisdictions and the organisations based within these communities.

This half-day course focuses on these challenges and risks in addition to their impact on internal issues already facing many island communities. It also concentrates on the objective interpretation of the range of economic and social data and information sources that is available. The primary aim is then to highlight the degree of importance of this analysis on strategic and operational planning within your own organisation and economic sector.

Course Content

The course comprises the following elements:

  • Relevance of economic and social data trends to a business
  • External influencing factors on economic and social trends
  • International, national and local data sources and reliability
  • How to interpret data in a simple but meaningful way
  • How to identify what data is and is not important to a business
  • Setting of business objectives in response to economic and social trends
  • Review process and timescales

In the private sector, Chris pioneered a unique research capability which not only benchmarked island economic, social and environmental strategies and policies around the world but also identified best practice in many areas.

Given the current very challenging times, Chris' experience and expertise gained over many years, is an invaluable asset to draw upon when addressing the implications of these concerns on the effective performance of island-based public and private sector organisations. This work has further enhanced his already extensive island experience and knowledge base.
