Course Overview

The Airmic Risk Management Fundamentals (RMF) course will equip you and your organisation with the essential knowledge and skills to navigate the increasingly complex world of risk.

Delivered by Airmic (The Association for Insurance & Risk Managers), the course is designed for those who have just entered the risk management profession or those in different professions, who would like to know more about understanding and managing risk.

The course is available to Airmic members and non-members from any sector or organisation and will be delivered as an open and in-house basis.

Course Content

Delivered by leading risk professionals across two days (in-person) or three half days (online), and supported by an online platform, delegates will experience six interactive modules packed with the latest thinking on risk management, coupled with access to practical resources including:

  • a comprehensive course workbook
  • a case study delivered by an Airmic member
  • risk tools, techniques and templates
  • a unique insight into the relationship between risk and insurance
  • a directory of useful terms
  • recommended further reading and resources

Module One: The Evolution, Language and Business Rationale for Managing Risk

Module Two: The What and the Why of Managing Risk

Module Three: The Risk Management Framework

Module Four: The Risk Management Process

Module Five: The Relationship between Risk Management, Governance, Assurance & Sustainability#

Module Six: Risk in Today’s World, Tomorrow’s World and the Real World

By the end of the course, you will be able to demonstrate how risk management can be used to help inform decisions in support of the objectives and strategy of your organisation through:

  • providing awareness and knowledge about risk and how it is managed
  • navigating the universe of risk and risk management
  • appreciating the need to collaborate internally and externally when managing risk
  • applying risk management principles to your organisation
  • describing the relationship between managing risk and insurance
  • exploring the concept of emerging risks and other developing risk practices with examples
  • engaging with a live organisational case study delivered by a senior industry professional and Airmic member

  • Julia Graham

    Julia Graham is CEO at Airmic and has a background in international insurance, enterprise risk management and compliance with four decades of experience in a global insurance company and a global law firm. Julia is an iNED of four captive insurance companies, a former chair of Airmic, former president of FERMA (Federation of European Risk Management Associations), and currently a board member of IFRIMA (International Federation of Risk and Insurance Management Associations.

  • Adam Ireland

    Adam Ireland is the Head of Learning at Airmic, where he leads the development and delivery of professional education for the UK’s risk and insurance community. With over five years of experience in the sector and 30+ years in business, management, and learning and development, Adam is dedicated to empowering professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate an evolving risk landscape. His work bridges industry experience and innovative learning design, fostering a culture of continuous development across Airmic’s member network and beyond. Adam is a Chartered Member of the CIPD, and holds certifications in areas such as Law & Employment Relations (Masters), Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), and Project Management.
