Course Overview

This interactive course delivered in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce’s Sustainable Business Initiative and the Guernsey Green Forum uses content from the globally recognised Chapter Zero Board Toolkit.

The course will cover a wide range of topics that are essential for business directors around the context of Climate change and the transition to the green economy.

This includes the role and the difference that Directors can make, why climate action is important and urgent, 5 practical steps to ensure your board is prepared as well as signposting helpful and trusted resources

We’ll also do a mini-workshop to explore the risks and opportunities of the transition in various sectors

Course Benefits

The course is designed to boost and supplement Directors and business leader’s knowledge and provide resources to help inform good decisions in the strategic direction of both Commercial and Finance sector businesses.

Prerequisites

Though targeted at Directors, NEDS and C-Suite, it would also be useful for those of more junior level, who wish to educate their leadership on this area.

Course Tutors

  • Rollo de Sausmarez

    Rollo de Sausmarez is Co-lead of The Chamber Of Commerce’s Sustainable Business Initiative, and leads the Sustainability Advisory arm of UN1TY.gg. He has Net-Zero and Sustainable Finance qualifications from the University of Cambridge and is certified Carbon Literate.

    UN1TY also runs the Channel Islands only sustainability course, officially accredited by the internationally recognised Carbon Literacy Project.
    Rollo has worked with a wide range of businesses to measure and manage their emissions develop Net-Zero strategy and provide advice on their business strategy through the lens of sustainability.

    Rollo and UN1TY were recently appointed the official validator of GIIA’s ESG framework.

  • Alex Herschel

    Alex Herschel is a Chartered Environmentalist and ISO lead auditor with over 25 years working as a subject matter expert advising internationally on environmental and social risk and sustainability. She is currently the Chief Sustainability Officer at Islands Energy Group. Alex is Vice Chair of the Guernsey Green Forum, a group which is open to local employers that want to share information and experience and work together to support the island to meet its Net Zero and sustainability aspirations. Alex passionately believes that while any single business can and should manage its environmental impact, much more can be achieved by working together as a business community. She enjoys bringing her technical skills to the group to help members sense check and be empowered to know how to walk as well as talk sustainability.
