Carol Edwards is a Guernsey-born and educated accountant. She qualified in London where she worked internationally for several FTSE 100 companies including The Rank Organisation and Diageo.
Since returning to the island she has developed her career in the finance sector, using her experience to support local companies to manage major corporate and private client portfolios. She was keen to complement this work and seek ways of formalising her understanding of corporate governance, risk and decision making.
On completing the programme in March 2017 with Merit, Carol now adds corporate governance support to the range of financial and management accounting services that she provides to clients.
“I was aware of the GTA’s postgraduate courses but I did not look at them closely as I thought that I was ineligible as I do not have a first degree. I was amazed and delighted to find that not only was I offered a place to study on the MSc programme but that my experience as an accountant exempted me from the first year of the course – a gift for any qualified accountant! I joined a group of 15 students with a wide range of experiences and backgrounds and although the university based approach is rooted in theory, the teaching allowed us to discuss our practical understanding of business and to apply the things that we were learning directly to our work. It is a fabulous way to learn and very efficient way for islanders to develop a career and gain university based qualifications.” - Carol Edwards.
