Course Overview

In this dynamic and interactive one-hour session, we will delve into the transformative impact of purpose-driven leadership in driving high business performance. Purpose is the North Star that provides clarity and alignment for every individual, but it takes more than a compelling vision to achieve high performance.

Registration is from 08:15 when refreshments and a light breakfast will be available.

Course Content

In the session we will explore why purpose must be paired with an environment of trust and empowerment, enabling teams to act with intent and deliver meaningful performance and outcomes. We will also tackle the some of the obstacles leaders face in translating purpose into action, offering practical strategies and models to lead with intent and foster a culture that drives sustainable success.

Course Tutor

  • David Joel

    David Joel is a qualified physicist with 22 years in the aerospace and defence sector and 10 years in the services and facilities management sector in leadership, finance and business development roles.
    David was seconded to the US, leading a multi-disciplinary team to penetrate the US defence marketplace.
    Upon return from the US, David took a post as the managing director of a newly acquired SME, dealing with the change and culture issues that characterise a new business acquisition. Whilst in the facilities management sector, David led a bid team for the privatisation of the atomic weapons establishment: Aldermaston, managing a three-way partnership comprised of Lockheed Martin, British Nuclear Fuels and Serco.
    In 2002, David founded Lanson Consultants Ltd. David is also a former chairman of the Portsmouth and East Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and a former board member of Hampshire Chamber of Commerce. Until recently David was also a member of the council of governors for the Queen Alexandra Hospital. David currently chairs the East Hampshire business forum, provides board-level coaching on business strategy to a blue chip organisation in the financial services sector and interviews prospective candidates for the IoD Chartered Director programme.

    David qualified with a diploma in Company Direction at the IoD in 2001 and became a Chartered Director in 2003.
    In his course leader capacity with the IoD David has worked with organisations such as the MoD, Office Depot, Mainetti, Cassidian, Commerzbank, Skanska, Travis Perkins, First Group and the NHS.
