Course Overview

Problem solving and decision making are critical skills in many professions, however, the majority of people learn these skills through trial and error rather than any formal training.

To understand how the human brain can solve problems and then make decisions, you need to build a toolkit to use in different scenarios which can improve both your individual and team performance.

Course Content

  • What is a problem and how do you solve one?
  • Understand the importance of defining a problem correctly
  • How to apply a problem-solving process to solving problems
  • Identify types of information to gather and key questions to ask in problem solving
  • Identify and use different problem solving tools and techniques
  • Identify different methods used for decision-making
  • How to evaluate solutions and make a decision
  • How to evaluate and review the decision that was made

Course Benefits

Problem solving and decision making success can be trial and error, however this course will build a toolkit for your future scenarios. It will also provide a safe environment for you to use scenarios for proactive problem solving and decision making techniques without there being any consequences on the team and business you work for.

Course Tutor

  • Lucy Mallett

    Lucy Mallett has been delivering management and soft skills training for over 15 years. Recently gaining her Level 5 Diploma in Management Coaching and Mentoring and Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management from the Chartered Managers Institute; these areas, and in particular behaviour and communication, is of great interest. This aids the development of course content that is relevant and up to date. Lucy has been with Guernsey College of Further Education, part of The Guernsey Institute for over 10 years and during that that time has gained her Level 5 Certificate in Education, Qualified Teacher Status and is an active part of the ONE thing observation team.

    Outside of teaching personal development programmes Lucy delivers on CMI, CIPD, OCR Office Administration and is the BCS Test Centre Manager for Guernsey College of Further Education. Through these roles Lucy is also an assessor and lead IV and their can bring personal experience and tips and techniques to this course.
