Course Overview
ICA have partnered with the International Cyber Threat Task Force (ICTTF) to offer the “NIST Cyber Security Expert”, a course that has been developed to teach businesses how to establish and operationalise a cyber security expert programme based on the NIST Cyber Security Framework.
This non-tech syllabus encompasses a real-life pragmatic approach to understanding the fundamental concepts of cyber risk management.
Course Content
This is an online course with 90 days access to all training material and exams.
The syllabus assumes a non-technical student and covers a range of topics from identification of cyber risks through to risk management options:
- Cyber Threat Landscape
- Cyber Risk Management Fundamentals
- Anatomy of the Cyber Security Framework
- NIST CSF Function – Identify
- NIST CSF Function – Protect
- NIST CSF Function – Detect
- NIST CSF Function – Respond
- NIST CSF Function – Recover
- Establishing a Cyber Risk Programme
The training material comprises rich interactive media such as videos, infographics and course notes. There are also opportunities for collaborative learning and networking via discussion forums. Each module contributes equally towards the continuous evaluation of students and form part of their overall assessment and scoring.

Please note that this course is not mapped in accordance with the levels set within the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (FHEQ) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Assessment
The course comprises 10 modules with an online exam at the end of each module. The pass score for each module is 80% and you have to obtain an average score of 80% or higher across all modules to be successfully certified. You can re-sit each of the module exams three times if required during your 90-day access.
Certification lasts for three years from the date awarded. From June 2023 a recertification exam will be available online at www.icttf.org. There will be a fee of €500 for the recertification exam or any resits required. If students elect to recertify by re-enrolling in the course they have that option and will receive a €500 discount off the cost of the course.

No previous cyber security knowledge is assumed, and the course is appropriate for all levels
